A vector is a quantity that has magnitude and direction. Vectors like velocity or force, when added or subtracted both magnitude and direction are important. A vector’s line is its magnitude and arrowhead tells its direction. The vector calculator is used to calculate addition, subtraction of 2 or more vectors. 

Example 1: A box is moved with F1 force of magnitude 3kN action in direction 80 degree from a F2 2nd force of magnitude 8kN. Find out the distance and direction in which the box will move.

Solution 1:Fr = [(32 + (82 – 2 x5x8x cos(180 – 80))]1/2
= 9 kN

Now calculate the angle between vector 1 and resulting vector

α = sin-1 [3 x sin(180 - 80) / 9]
= 19.1

The angle between vector2 and Vr = 80–19.1 = 60.9



Example 2: Find out the subtraction of vector 1 (3,5) from vector 2 (7,9)

Solution 2:  In the given question, coordinates of both the vectors are given.

Vector 1 (V1) = (3, 5)  and Vector 2 (V2) = (7, 9)

Subtraction of V2 – V1 = a

a = (7, 9) – (3, 5) = (7, 9) + (-3, -5) = (7-3 , 9-5) = (4, 4)

Therefore the resulting vector when vector 1 is subtracted from vector 2 will be Vr (4, 4)
