Trapezoid area Calculator is used to calculate total space inside the trapezoid called the area of the trapezoid. A trapezoid is any quadrilateral figure that has one pair of parallel side, and has 2 bases and a height.
Area = ½ (a+b)h, where a and b are bases and h is height.
Example 1: Calculation of the area of a trapezoid where Bases are a= 7 cm and b = 3 cm, and height = 9 cm
For the given question
Area of trapezoid = ½ (base1 + base2) height = ½ (a + b ) h
= ½ x (7 cm + 3 cm) 9 cm [ replacing the values of a, b and h ]
= ½ (10 cm) 9 cm = 90 cm2
Area of trapezoid = 45 cm2
Example 2: Calculation of the area of a isosceles trapezoid where Bases are a= 12cm and b = 4cm, and side = 5cm
For the given question
Area of trapezoid = ½ ( a + b ) h
Since its isosceles trapezoid side1 = side2 = s
Use Pythagoras theorem to find side s ;
h2= s2 - (a-b /2)2;
h = √25 - (12-4/ 2) = √21
= ½ x (12+4) √21
= ½ (16 cm) √21 cm = 8√21 cm2
