Surface area of a prism calculator is a tool used to find the surface area of a prism. We know prism is a three
dimensional shape. The surface area of prism is the sum of surface area of all faces. Flat faces of prism are
called lateral the faces and top, bottom faces is called base of prism. We express surface area by unit
square. We have three types of prism Rectangular prism, Circular prism and triangular based prism. Formula
for the surface area of prism = 2 (area of base) + perimeter of base * H
Example 1: - Find the surface area of circular prism which has the radius is 7 m and height is 2 m.
Solution: - Some of the steps involved are as follow:-
Step 1: From the problem we can write
Area of base = pi r^2 = 22/7 * 7^2 = 154 m^2
Perimeter of base = 2 pi r = 2 * 22/7 * 7 = 44 m
Step 2: We have the formula to find surface area of a circular prism
Surface area of circular prism = 2 (area of base) + perimeter of base * height
Step 3: we can plug the given values in this formula
Surface area of circular prism = 2 * 154 + 44 * 2
= 308 + 88
= 396 square m
So, the surface area of circular prism is 396 square m
Example 2: - Find the surface area of a triangular prism if the apothem length is 5 m, base length is 4 m and
height is 6m.
Solution: - Some of the steps involved are as follow:-
Step 1: From the problem we can write
a = 5 m, b = 4 m, h = 6 m.
Step 2: We have the formula to find surface area of a triangular prism
Surface area of a triangular prism = ab + 3bh
Step 3: we can plug the given values in this formula
Surface area of a triangular prism = 20 + 72
= 92 square m
So, the surface area of triangular prism is 92 square m
