Substitution method is used to solve two equations with two variables in each equation. In this method we solve for x or y and then plugged-in the 2nd equation to find the x or y depending upon the problem.

Substitution method calculator is used to solve two simultaneous equation for  the variable

Example 1: Calculation using substitution method these equation. 2x-y=1, 3x+2y=12

Solution 1:  For the given equation :

 2x – y = 1...........................................(i)

 y = 2x – 1............................................(ii)

=>The second equation’s y-value is replaced by 2x-1

=>3x + 2(2x-1) = 12

=>7x – 2 = 12

=>7x = 12+2

=>x = 14/7 = 2

=>Substitute 2 for x in the 1st equation:

=>2(2) – 1 = y

=>y = 3

The solution for the given equation are x= 2, y = 3

Example 2: Calculation using substitution method these equation. 3x+4y =12, 2x – 5y =10

Solution 2: For a given question we need to reduce these fractions and then subtract them.

=> 3x+4y =12..............(i)

=> 2x – 5y =10........................(ii)

=> From equation (i) we have ,

=> 4y = 12 -3x

=>y = (12-3x)/4

=> Substitute 2 for y in the 2nd equation:

=>2x – 5(12-3x/4) = 10

=>2x – [(60 – 15x)]/4 = 10

=>(8x – 60 + 15x) /4 = 10

=>23x -60 /4 =10

=>23x = 40 +60

=>x = 100/23

=>Now replace value of x to find y

=>y = 3 – (3/4)(100/23)

=>y = -6/23

So , here  for the two equation we have  x = 100/23, y = -6/23
