Slope is generally considered as ratio of the vertical rise to the horizontal run between any two points on a line. It is usually referred to as RISE over RUN.
FORMULA FOR FINDING SLOPE:
When we have two points on a line like A (X1, Y1) and B(X2, Y2) we use the following formula:
SLOPE = RISE = Y2– Y1
RUN X2 – X1
Slope Form Calculator is used to find the slope of line from the coordinates of line.
Example 1.
Find the Slope of the line between two points (-4, 8) and (10, -4).
Solution:
Here we use the formula m =Y2 – Y1
X2– X1
Now putting the values from the question in the formula (-4) – (8)
(10) – (-4)
Now we simplify the expression
(-4) – (8) = -4 - 8 =-12= -6
(10) – (-4) 10+4 14 7
So, we get slope as -6
7
Example 2.
Find the slope of the line between the two points (8, 12) and (-8, -2).
Solution:
Here we use the formula m =Y2 – Y1
X2– X1
Now putting the values from the question in the formula (-2) - (12)
(-8) – (8)
Now we simplify the expression
(-2) – (12)= -2 - 12 =-14 = 7
(-8)– (8) -8 – 8 -16 8
So, we get slope as 7
