All value may be different but they represent a same quantity an approximated area under the curve.

Example 1: calculate Riemann sum for y = x^2 over the interval [0, 2] for 4 equal intervals.




Example 2: calculate Riemann sum of the function f(x) = 5x – x^2 using mid-point approach over the interval [1, 4] for 3 equal

intervals.

We have a =  1, b = 4 and n = 3 intervals would be (1, 2) (2, 3) (3, 4) midpoint of each interval is ½ , 3/2 and 5/2.
