When we divide one number by another number and get quotient and remainder. The number which is divided is called dividend, dividend is divided by a number is called the divisor. After division we get an integer value, it is called the quotient and the remaining number is called the remainder. We know the relation remainder = dividend – quotient * divisor.

Example 1: Divide 75 by the 4 and write the answer with remainder.

For a given part, the dividend is 75 and the divisor is 4. When we divide 75 by 4, we know that 4 times 18 is 72.

                                    Remainder = Dividend – Quotient * divisor.

Here we have dividend as 75 , quotient as 18 and the divisor as 4.

Remainder = 75 – 18 * 4

Now, we simplify this equation

Remainder = 75 – 72;

Remainder = 3

Hence the value of the remainder is 3

Example 2: Find the remainder when 29 is divided by 5.

For a given part, the dividend is 29 and the divisor is 5. When we divide 29 by 5, we know that 5 times 5 is 25.

Remainder = Dividend – Quotient * divisor.

Here we have dividend as 29, quotient as 5 and the divisor as 5.

Remainder = 29 – 5 * 5

Now, we simplify this equation

Remainder = 29 – 25;

Remainder = 4

Hence the value of the remainder is 4
