A ratio is a form of showing a relationship between two quantities. If two ratios are equal to each other, then

that notation is called a ‘proportion’. In a proportion, is there is an unknown in that comparison, we can solve

for it. Proportion calculator is the online fun tool which can solve for unknown in the given proportion.

Example 1: Solve for ‘x’ in the given proportion, 3: x :: 5: 10

Given proportion ->  3: x :: 5: 10

Since a proportion is a relation where two ratios are equated to each other, we can also write the above

notation as ->  3/x = 5/10

Here we solve for ‘x’ ->  hence we can cross-multiply the denominators!

(3 * 10) = (5 * x)

30 = 5x

Hence dividing by ‘5’ on both sides -> 30/5 = 5x/5

x = 6

Example 2:Solve for ‘x’ in the given proportion, x: 4 :: 6: 14

Given proportion ->  x: 4 :: 6: 14

Since a proportion is a relation where two ratios are equated to each other, we can also write the above

notation as ->  x/4 = 6/14

Here we solve for ‘x’ ->  hence we can cross-multiply the denominators!

(x * 14) = (4 * 6)

14x = 24

Hence dividing by ‘14’ on both sides -> 14x/14 = 24/14-> x= 24/14

Simplifying the fraction-> x = 12/7
