An expression contains both variables and constants. An expression when equated to zero is called as an equation. Multistep equation Calculator tool is used to solve for the variable. For example 2x + 3 is an expression with variable x and when equated to 0, that is 2x + 3 = 0 is an equation.
Example 1: Solve for p in the equation 7p – 55 = 23 + 5p
7p – 55 = 23 + 5p
Step 1: Add -5p on both sides
7p – 55 – 5p = 23 + 5p – 5p
2p – 55 = 23
Step 2: Add 55 on both sides
2p – 55 + 55 = 23 + 55
2p = 78
Step 3: Divide by 2 on both sides
=
P = 39
Hence P = 39
Check: 7p – 55 = 23 + 5p
7(39) – 55 = 23 + 5 (39)
273 – 55 = 23 + 195
218 = 218
Example 2: Solve for x in the equation x + 1 = x +
x + 1 = x +
Observe the denominators 4, 6 and 2. Find the L.C.M of 4, 6 and 2.
4 = 2 x 2 x 1 6 =3 x 2 x 1 2 = 2 x 1
So Least Common Multiple is 2 x 2 x 3 = 12
Multiply with 12 on both sides of the equation.
12 ( x + 1) = ( x + 12
12 + 12(1) = 12 +12
3x + 12 = 2x + 6
Add – 2x on both sides
3x + 12 – 2x = 2x + 6 – 2x
x + 12 = 6
Add – 12 on both sides
X + 12 – 12 = 6 – 12
X = - 6
