It is a combination of a whole number and a proper fraction. Hence the name given as “MIXED FRACTION”. For instance 2 is a mixed fraction. Here 2 is a whole number and is a proper fraction.

What is a proper fraction? For a proper fraction the numerator is smaller than the denominator. The top part of the fraction, 3 is called as numerator and the bottom part of the fraction, 5 is called as denominator.
