Linear interpolation is the method of finding the value of the function connecting known coordinate points.

With the help of the line joining the points, we can figure out other points which are on the same line. Linear

interpolation calculator is the instant online tool which can easily evaluate the unknown coordinate given the

points.

Example 1: Find the value of y for given x = 2, given data values (1, 4) and (3, 5)

The given data values are:

 x =2; x1 =1; y1 = 4; x2 = 3; y2 =5;

The interpolation formula's is:

y = y1 + [(x – x1) (y2 –y1)/ (x2 –x1)]

y = 4 + [(2−1) (5−4)/ (3 - 1)]

y = 4 + (1 * 1/ 2)  -> y = 4 + ½ -> y = 4.5

Hence the value of y = 4.5

The new data value is (2, 4.5)

Example 2: Find the value of y for given x = 3, given data values (2, 6) and (4, 8)

The given data values are:

 x =3; x1 =2; y1 = 6; x2 = 4; y2 =8;

The interpolation formula's is:

y = y1 + [(x – x1) (y2 –y1)/ (x2 –x1)]

y = 6 + [(3−2) (8−6)/ (4 - 2)]

y = 6 + (1 * 2/ 2)  -> y = 6 + 1-> y = 7

Hence the value of y = 7

The new data value is (3, 7)
