 A linear equation can be written in the form of y = mx + b, where ‘m’ is the slope of the line and ‘b’ is the y

intercept. The equation of a line can be found if two points on the line are given. Line equation calculator is

the online tool which can calculate the equation of a line given the points.

Example 1: Find the line equation; (1,3) (2,4) are the points on the line.

The equation of any straight line is of the form y = mx + b.

Slope of the line, m = (4 - 3)/ (2 - 1) = 1/1 = 1.

The line is y = 1* x + b; y = x + b.

Now substituting (1,3) in the line,

This gives 3 = 1 + b<-b = 2.

m = 1 and b = 2.

Hence the equation of the line is y = x + 2.

Example 2: Find the line equation; (5,3) (6,7) are the points on the line.

The equation of any straight line is of the form y = mx + b.

Slope of the line = (7 - 3)/ (6 - 5) = 4/1 = 4.

The line is y = 4* x + b <- y = 4 x + b.

Now substituting (5, 3) in the line,

This gives 3 = 20 + b; b = -17.

m = 4 and b = -17.

Hence the equation of the line is y = 4 x - 17.
