LCD means least common denominator. Least common denominator is the smallest integer that is the
multiple of the denominators in given set of fractions. Least common denominator makes solving fractions
having mathematical operations trivial. The online tool used to calculate the least common denominator is
called as the LCD calculator.
Example 1: Find the least common denominator for 7/12 and 5/18.
Given are two fractions: 7/12 and 5/18.
Here the given two fractions have different denominators 12 and 18.
To find the least common denominator for the two numbers, their multiples need to be written.
12 has multiples 12, 24, 36, 48, 60...........
18 has multiples 18,36,54,72,90.........
The smallest common multiple between 12 and 18 is 36.
Hence, the least common denominator = 36.
Example 2: Find the least common denominator for 11/6 and 3/4.
Given are two fractions 11/6 and 3/4.
Here the given two fractions have different denominators 6 and 4.
To find the least common denominator for the two numbers their multiples need to be written.
6 has multiples 6, 12, 18, 24, 30...........
4 has multiples 4, 8, 12, 16, 20.........
The smallest common multiple between 6 and 4 is 12.
Hence, the least common denominator = 12.
