Intersection is the point where the given lines or curves cut each other. There can be one or more than one point of intersection depending on the equation of the given lines or curves. The online tool used to find the intersection between the given lines or a curve is called as the Intersection calculator.

Example 1: Find the points of intersection for the given equations,

 x = 4 and y2 = x + 5.

Given are equation of a line and curve x = 4 and y2 = x + 5 respectively.

To find the points of intersection substitute x = 4 in y2 = x + 5.

This gives, y2 = 4 + 5; y2 = 9.

Now square root on both sides of the equation.

Therefore y = √9  y = 3, -3.

Hence points of intersection are (4, 3) and (4, -3).

Example 2: Find the points of intersection for the given equations,

 y = 1 and 3 x + 2 y = 8.

Given are two equations of straight lines y = 1 and 3 x + 2 y = 8.

To find the points of intersection substitute y = 1 in 3 x + 2 y = 8.

This gives, 3 x + 2 *1 = 8; 3 x + 2 = 8  3 x = 6;

Divide by 3 on both sides of the equation.

Therefore x = 2

Hence point of intersection is (2, 1).
