Interquartile range is found for a given set of data in statistics. The interquartile range is the difference between the upper quartile and the lower quartile. Example 1: Find the interquartile range for the set of data 5, 4, 5, 6, 9, 7, 9.

First arrange the given data in ascending order.

4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 9, 9.

The list is divided into quartiles

Lower quartile between 4, 5 is 5

Middle quartile from 5, 6, and 7 is 6

Upper quartile for 9, 9 is 9

The interquartile range = Upper quartile - Lower quartile = 9 - 5 = 4

Hence, interquartile range = 4.


Example 2: Find the interquartile range for the set of data

 8, 3, 2, 5, 7, 5, 2, 4, 8, 1

First arrange the given data in ascending order.

1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 7, 8, 8.

The list is divided into quartiles

Lower quartile between 1, 2, 2 is 2

Middle quartile from 3, 4, 5, 5 is (4 + 5)/2 = 4.5

Upper quartile for 7, 8, and 8 is 7

The interquartile range = Upper quartile - Lower quartile = 7 - 2 = 5

Hence, interquartile range = 5.
