There are two kinds of intercepts X Intercept and Y Intercept of any equation. X Intercept, Y Intercept are the points where the graph of the equation touches the X-axis and Y-axis respectively. The online tool used to find the intercept of a given equation is called as the Intercept calculator.
Example 1: Find the intercept of the equation 3 X + 2 Y = 6
Given equation of the straight line is 3 X + 4 Y = 12
X intercept is the point on X axis hence Y = 0.
This gives 3 X + 2 * 0 = 6; 3 X = 6 X = 2.
Y intercept is the point on Y axis hence X = 0.
This gives 3 * 0 + 2 * Y = 6; 2 Y = 6 Y = 3.
Hence the intercept of the given straight line is (2, 0) and (0, 3).
Example 2: Find the intercept of the equation 5 X - Y = 5
Given equation of the straight line is 5 X - Y = 5
X intercept is the point on X axis hence Y = 0.
This gives 5 X - 0 = 5; 5 X = 5 X = 1.
Y intercept is the point on Y axis hence X = 0.
This gives 5 * 0 - Y = 5; -Y = 5 Y = -5.
Hence the intercept of the given straight line is (1, 0) and (0, -5).
