Domain is the set of possible input values of the independent variable, ‘x’ for any given function. Range of a function is the set of output values of the dependent variable ‘y’ for the given function. Domain and range calculator online is the simple tool which can give domain and range values for any give function.

Example 1:Findthe domain of the function, f(x) = 2x + 1

Domain is the set of values of ‘x’ for which the function f(x) exists!

If x= 0    f(0) = 2(0) + 1    f(0)= 1   Ordered pair = (0, 1)

Now let ‘x’ be any negative number   x=-3    then f(-3)= -5

Ordered pair=(3, -5)

‘x’ is valid for any negative number.

Similarly let ‘x’ be any positive number   x =1   then f(1)=3   Ordered pair=(1, 3)

’x’ is valid for any positive number as well.

Hence domain of f(x)=2x+1 is all Real numbers.

Example 2: Find the range of the above function, f(x) = 2x + 1

Range is the set of output values of the function f(x).

In the above example, for the given function f(x) = 2x + 1,

The Domain = all Real numbers.

Now for any real number as ‘x’, the output ‘y’ value is also a Real number.

Hence the range of the function f(x) = 2x + 1, is all Real numbers.
