Decimal numbers are a very important set of numbers in the number system. For a decimal number, a ‘point (.)’ is placed in between the numbers. Any decimal number can be expanded according to the position of the numbers before and after the ‘decimal point’. Decimal notation calculator is the simple tool which can give the expanded notation of decimals.

Example 1: Write the given decimal number, 12.35 in its expanded decimal notation.

Starting from the number on the left side ‘1’ is in the ten’s place as a whole number

                                                           Hence 1*101 = 10

The next number ‘2’ is in the unit’s place as a whole number.Hence 2 * 1=2

Similarly ‘3’ is in the tenth’s place after the decimal point. Hence 3 * 10-1 =3* 0.1=0.3

Similarly the number ‘5’ is in the hundredth’s place after the decimal point.

                                                             5 * 10-2 = 5*0.01= 0.05

The expanded decimal notation 10+ 2+0.3+0.05 = 12.35

Example 2: Write the given decimal number, 352.684 in its expanded decimal notation.

Starting from the number on the left side ‘3’ is in the hundred’s place as a whole number
                                                            Hence 3*102 = 300

The next number ‘5’ is in the ten’s place as a whole number. Hence 5 *10=50

Next number is in unit’s place 2*1=2

Similarly ‘6’ is in tenth’s place after the decimal point.

                                                               Hence 6 * 10-1 =6* 0.1=0.6

Similarly ‘8’is in the hundredth’s place after the decimal point 8 * 10-2 = 8*0.01= 0.08

Similarly ’4’ is in the thousandth place 4*10-3 = 4*0.001= 0.004

The expanded decimal notation 300+50+2+0.6+0.08+0.004=352.684
