Binary number system, also called as the base-2 number system consists of only two numbers, ‘1’ and ‘0’. The general number system which we use most often is the Decimal number system where numbers can be represented from ‘0’ to 9’. Example 1: Convert the given binary number into decimal number 1001011.

To convert the given binary number to decimal number, there are two methods of converting it.

Let’s follow the first method which is Positional Notation method.

Start from the binary number on the right è 20 * 1 = 1

Next we get è 21 * 1 = 2; 22 * 0 = 0; 23 * 1 = 8; 24 * 0 = 0; 25 * 0 = 0; 26 * 1 = 64

Add all the above answers we get,

1 + 2 + 0 + 8 + 0 + 0 + 64 = 75 (base 10) is the answer!


Example 2:Convert the given binary number into decimal number 1001011.

To convert the given binary number to decimal number, there are two methods of converting it.

Let’s follow the second method which is the Doubling method.

Start from the binary number on the left  (0 * 2) + 1 = 1

Now multiply the previous answer ‘1’ with ‘2’ and add the binary number

(1 * 2) + 0 = 2

(2 * 2) + 0 = 4

(4 * 2) + 1 = 9

(9 * 2) + 0 = 18

(18 * 2) + 1 = 37

(37 * 2) + 1 = 75 (base 10) is the answer!
