The additive inverse of a number ‘x' is ‘-x’ such that x + (-x) = 0, where ‘x’ is a real number. Here ‘-x’ is called as the additive inverse of ‘x’ since when added with the given number ‘x’, gives a ‘0’. Additive inverse calculator is the simple tool which can quickly evaluate the additive inverse of any number.

Example 1: Find the additive inverse of the numbers, 6 and – 13.

To find the additive inverse of a number, we should first follow the Additive Inverse property.

So ‘6’ when added to which number gives us the final answer as ‘0’?

 6 + a = 0 solving for ‘a’ we get a = -6.

Hence the additive inverse of ‘6’ is ‘6’

Similarly-13 + a = 0  solving for ‘a’ we get a = 13

Hence the additive inverse of ‘-13’ is ‘13’.

Example 2: Find the additive inverse of the numbers, 3/5 and √7.

To find the additive inverse of a number, we should first follow the Additive Inverse property.

Here even though ‘3/5’ is a fraction, it will still follow the same rules of the property.

So 3/5 + a = 0 solving for ‘a’ gives us ‘-3/5’.

Hence the additive inverse of 3/5 is -3/5.

Similarly, √7 + a = 0  solving for ‘a’ we get ‘a’ = - √7

Hence the additive inverse of √7 is - √7

Additive inverse is simply the opposite of the given number!
